Chronic Prostatitis Syndrome: A Common, but Poorly Understood Condition. Part I
2007
Abstract Chronic Prostatitis Syndrome (CPS) is a frequent disease. Before the PSA era, data from various sources showed that there were more outpatient visits for CPS than for BPH or prostate cancer. CPS has a very negative impact on the patients’ quality of life. However, this debilitating disease stimulates relatively little enthusiasm in the urological world. The classification proposed by the National Institutes of Health is widely adopted. The disease is described as “Chronic Prostatitis/Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome” and considers four categories. Category III includes Chronic Inflammatory Prostatitis and Prostatodynia. Universally accepted guidelines for diagnostic work-up are not ava…
Apoptotic effect as biomarker of disease, severity and follow-up in interstitial cystitis
2018
Objective: To determine whether the apoptotic effect test could serve as a biomarker of severity in bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis. Material and methods: A prospective study was conducted between January 2010 and January 2015, which included 57 patients diagnosed with interstitial cystitis and 49 diagnosed with chronic pelvic pain of gynaecological origin. The urine was exposed to cell cultures, and the urine's capacity for inducing apoptosis in the cultures was analysed. A statistical analysis was then conducted to assess whether the apoptotic effect was associated with the symptoms. Results: After performing an analysis of the association between the degree of apoptotic effec…
Nastanak i liječenje gigantskih kamenaca ileocekalnog urinskog spremnika u pacijenta liječenog cistektomijom zbog intersticijskog cistitisa: prikaz s…
2021
Poslijeoperacijs…
Pathophysiology orientated therapy of the aging bladder
2004
Aging is associated with changes of organ systems including skin, bone metabolism and the muscoloskeletal, endocrine, cardiovascular, and genitourinary systems . Concerning age-related changes in lower urinary tract function, the incidence of nocturia and general neurological or vascular diseases with impact on detrusor function are comparable for men and women. However, there are also sex related differences in lower urinary tract symptoms [LUTS) such as bladder outlet obstruction in men (due to agerelated prostate growth) and gonadal insufficiency, multiparity, cystocele or enterocele in women. In addition to the common occurrence of LUTS in elderly people, comorbidity increases with age,…
Pregnancy After Urinary Diversion at Young Ages-Risks and Outcome.
2016
Objective To assess the urologic and obstetric outcomes during and after pregnancy following urinary diversion (UD) performed during childhood or adolescence. Materials and Methods From our UD database, we identified 25 women who became pregnant between 1981 and 2013. Reasons for UD were neurogenic bladder, exstrophy, trauma, sinus urogenitalis, and interstitial cystitis. Seventeen had continent cutaneous diversion, 4 had continent anal diversion, and 4 had colonic conduit. Results The average age at delivery was 27.8 (18-39) years. Thirty-seven pregnancies occurred; 1 patient decided for an induced abortion. Thirty-two healthy children were born. Five patients had a spontaneous abortion be…
